Qilimanjaro Unveils Quantum Computing Kit for Education
Spanish quantum technology firm Qilimanjaro has launched EduQit, a modular quantum computing kit tailored for universities and research institutions. This innovative platform aims to close the gap in practical quantum computing training by providing hands-on access to advanced hardware and development tools, enabling a new generation of AI and quantum technology specialists.
Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech, a Spain-based quantum technology firm, has announced the launch of EduQit—a modular, build-your-own quantum computer kit designed for educational and research purposes. With this release, universities and research institutions gain unprecedented hands-on access to physical superconducting quantum systems, moving beyond traditional theoretical learning or remote simulators.
EduQit provides a comprehensive platform that includes hardware components, control systems, operational guidance, development tools, and ongoing support from Qilimanjaro's experts. The package is modular, enabling institutions to adapt and expand their quantum systems as their needs evolve, and to tailor the experience to specific educational or research goals.
Traditionally, quantum computing education has relied on simulations or cloud-based access. This approach, while accessible, limits students’ exposure to the realities of building, operating, and maintaining quantum machines. EduQit addresses this gap by allowing direct engagement with the underlying technology, from assembling hardware to running quantum algorithms locally.
'Access to modular quantum systems and close interaction with Qilimanjaro’s technical teams have allowed students, particularly at the master’s thesis level, to acquire system-level understanding and practical experience that is rarely accessible within a traditional academic setting,' said Professor Bruno Julià Díaz, coordinator of the interuniversity master’s degree in Quantum Science and Technology at the University of Barcelona. Qilimanjaro’s collaboration with academic leaders reflects a broader commitment to fostering advanced technical skills.
The EduQit kit is suited for laboratory courses, project-based learning, and undergraduate through doctoral-level research. Its flexible design helps institutions avoid being locked into a single technological path, encouraging ongoing experimentation and innovation. EduQit’s open architecture also enables comparison between different qubit modalities and facilitates research into emerging quantum technologies.
In addition to on-site capabilities, EduQit users can access Qilimanjaro’s SpeQtrum platform via the cloud, allowing remote experimentation and benchmarking on a variety of quantum hardware configurations. This hybrid approach supports both direct and virtual interaction, empowering researchers to test, benchmark, and refine their projects across multiple quantum paradigms—including digital, analog, and hybrid implementations.
By equipping students and researchers with real-world tools and expertise, EduQit aims to drive workforce development and reinforce Europe’s technological sovereignty in the rapidly evolving fields of AI and quantum information science. The platform is expected to strengthen collaborations between academia, industry, and public stakeholders, supporting the European Union’s broader strategic priorities for advanced technology skills and sustainable innovation.
