Meta Platforms has announced a substantial long-term partnership with NVIDIA, involving the purchase of millions of graphics processing units (GPUs) for artificial intelligence applications. Valued at several billions of dollars, the deal is set to significantly expand Meta’s AI infrastructure as it pursues large-scale deployment of advanced hardware.

The agreement encompasses the acquisition of NVIDIA's latest Blackwell and Rubin GPUs, hardware specifically designed to accelerate machine learning models and support compute-intensive AI workloads. The new GPUs will underpin Meta’s growing infrastructure, enabling the company to strengthen its AI capabilities across services and platforms.

A notable feature of the partnership is Meta’s integration of NVIDIA's Confidential Computing technology within WhatsApp. Confidential Computing safeguards data while it is processed, rather than merely during transfer or storage. This innovative approach ensures user information remains encrypted and protected from unauthorized access—even during active computation. According to NVIDIA, this protection extends to preserving both user data and the intellectual property of software providers, thwarting potential breaches from cloud vendors, hackers, or malicious actors.

Meta will be the first organization to deploy NVIDIA Grace CPUs as standalone processors, without being paired with GPUs. This configuration is designed for efficiently managing inference—the process by which AI models make predictions—and other agentic (autonomous AI agent) workloads. To support its data center operations, Meta will also implement NVIDIA Spectrum-X Ethernet switches, delivering high-performance networking vital for large-scale AI tasks.

Earlier in the year, Meta projected its AI-related expenditures could reach as high as $135 billion during 2026. Industry analysts suggest that the agreement with NVIDIA represents a major growth in their collaborative investment, likely worth tens of billions of dollars. Meta has also detailed a broader capital program with plans to invest $600 billion to build up to 30 data centers by 2028, primarily in the United States.

The collaboration between Meta and NVIDIA highlights the increasing importance of high-performance hardware and advanced security solutions in supporting the next generation of consumer AI applications. As demand for encrypted, large-scale AI processing grows, partnerships of this scale are expected to shape the competitive landscape of the global tech industry.
