Grodi Secures €2.5M to Advance AI-Powered Greenhouse Robotics
Grodi, a Spanish startup specializing in autonomous robotics and AI for intensive agriculture, has raised €2.5 million in new funding. The investment will support the rollout and industrialization of its VEGA 11 robot, designed to optimize greenhouse management with computer vision and machine learning.
Grodi, a Spanish company developing autonomous robotics and artificial intelligence solutions for intensive agriculture, has raised €2.5 million in a funding round led by Swanlaab Innvierte Agri FoodTech, with additional participation from Axon Desarrollo Andalucía and Innvierte, SICC del CDTI.
Founded in 2022 in Almería by Samuel Ruíz, Natalia Gálvez, and Ana Molina, Grodi brings together expertise in engineering, robotics, AI, and agronomy. The team is focused on advancing technology tailored to Mediterranean agricultural needs, providing growers and cooperatives with continuous, objective data to support better decision-making in an industry that faces substantial uncertainties.
Central to Grodi’s platform is VEGA 11, an autonomous agricultural robot designed to operate independently in Mediterranean greenhouses. VEGA 11 leverages advanced computer vision—a branch of AI enabling machines to interpret visual data—and proprietary hardware to deliver comprehensive plant monitoring. The solution applies machine learning algorithms to analyze plant health, predict yields, and enable precise agronomic management.
Grodi’s digital platform consolidates real-time analytics, helping growers optimize operations, reduce costs, and improve resource efficiency while supporting more sustainable farming practices. The ability to obtain standardized and objective data aims to reduce risk for farmers and cooperatives, who are under increasing pressure to raise productivity and lower environmental impact.
Ana Molina, Grodi’s CEO, emphasized the sector’s demand for automation solutions that reduce operational costs and bring greater efficiency to resource use. She stated, “VEGA is demonstrating that automation and computer vision can radically transform daily crop management.”
The company is now focused on scaling the commercial deployment of VEGA 11 and expanding its technology portfolio with other practical solutions for the agricultural sector. The new investment will be used to industrialize VEGA 11, strengthen Grodi’s presence in Spain’s main horticultural regions, and pursue international growth in markets seeking improved productivity and sustainability.
The funding highlights ongoing momentum for AI-driven automation in agriculture, as growers across Europe look to technology to address labor shortages, enhance decision-making, and meet evolving regulatory and environmental demands.
