Adobe Releases Public Beta of AI Assistant for Photoshop
Adobe has launched a public beta of its AI Assistant for Photoshop, now available on web and mobile platforms. The update introduces advanced generative AI features, allowing users to manipulate images with natural language prompts and integration of third-party models. Paid users receive unlimited usage throughout the initial beta phase, while free users have limited access.
Adobe has announced the public beta of its AI Assistant for Photoshop, expanding artificial intelligence capabilities within the company's flagship image editing software. The new feature is available to both web and mobile users, bringing advanced generative AI tools to a wide audience of creatives and professionals.
The AI Assistant enables users to perform complex image edits—including object removal, color modification, and lighting adjustments—using natural language prompts. For example, users can type a request such as "remove the background" or "brighten the image" and see the AI make instant modifications. This natural language interface lowers barriers to entry for less experienced users while speeding up workflows for experts.
Building on functionality first previewed at the Adobe MAX event in October, Adobe is integrating generative AI—the technology underlying text-to-image and similar models—more deeply into Photoshop's core capabilities. Generative AI systems can create or alter visual content by interpreting user instructions, representing a significant shift in creative toolsets.
As part of the beta phase, users with paid Photoshop subscriptions can access unlimited generations through April 9, while free users are allocated 20 generations initially. Adobe is simultaneously testing a new AI markup feature, providing users the ability to draw markers which the AI then transforms into instructed objects or changes, further streamlining the editing process.
Adobe is also enhancing its Firefly media-creation tool with additional generative features. New capabilities include Generative Fill, generative object removal, expand, and upscale. A one-click background removal tool has been added as well, aimed at improving ease of use and speeding up image processing. Firefly subscribers currently have unlimited usage of generative features, reflecting the company's push to encourage adoption of AI-assisted creativity.
Expanding its ecosystem, Adobe has integrated over 25 third-party image and video generation models into Firefly, such as Google’s Nano Banana 2, OpenAI’s Image Generation, Runway’s Gen-4.5, and Black Forest Labs’ Flux.2 Pro. This strategy enables users to access a broader variety of AI-powered creative tools from multiple providers within the Adobe environment.
The developments mark a continued trend across the creative software sector toward AI-driven solutions, with Adobe positioning itself as a central hub for generative image editing and content creation. As generative AI becomes more mainstream, such tools are likely to reshape professional and amateur creative workflows alike.
