Google unveiled enhanced Gemini AI integration for Workspace on Tuesday, bringing advanced generative capabilities to Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive. The new tools—initially released in beta for Google AI Ultra and Pro subscribers—are designed to automate content creation and streamline productivity tasks by leveraging data from users’ Gmail, Chat, and Drive accounts.

For Google Docs, the update introduces a "Help me create" feature that can draft documents using a combination of user instructions and relevant information from connected files. Users can refine specific portions of a document without the need to regenerate full drafts. The "Match writing style" tool is intended to create a consistent tone across documents edited by multiple collaborators, addressing a common challenge in group authoring. Additionally, Docs now features a "Match the format" function, enabling structural replication of templates—such as itineraries—by pulling personal details from associated emails and other files.

Google Sheets users can now generate formatted spreadsheets from a single prompt. The "Fill with Gemini" tool provides further automation by generating text, summarizing data, and extracting information from Google Search. For example, users can automate the tracking of moving company quotes or keep a log of application deadlines, reducing manual data entry.

In Slides, Gemini AI supports the creation of fully editable slides that adhere to a presentation’s established theme. Users can direct the tool to match colors and content style across the deck. Google says forthcoming updates will allow for generating entire presentations from a single prompt, highlighting the company’s ongoing investment in generative AI.

Google Drive introduces an "AI Overview" at the top of search results, summarising relevant information found in files and providing source citations. The new "Ask Gemini in Drive" feature enables users to query across documents, emails, and calendars, making it possible to ask questions—such as for tax filing guidance—using personal and shared data in Drive.

The features are available globally in English for Docs, Sheets, and Slides, with Drive enhancements launching first in the United States. Google’s move follows industry trends placing AI-generated content at the heart of productivity platforms, aiming to reduce users’ reliance on separate chatbots or external tools for everyday business tasks.
