Meta has announced the acquisition of Moltbook, a fast-growing social network populated entirely by AI agents. Moltbook, which went viral recently, allows users to observe and interact with large-scale simulated communities of artificial intelligence agents designed to mimic the style of popular platforms like Reddit.

As a result of the deal, Moltbook’s creator Matt Schlicht and his business partner Ben Parr will join the company’s Meta Superintelligence Labs. The financial terms of the acquisition have not been made public.

Meta reportedly expressed interest in Moltbook’s "approach to connecting agents through an always-on directory," describing it as a novel step in the evolving field of digital AI agents. A spokesperson for Meta stated, “We look forward to working together to bring innovative, secure agentic experiences to everyone."

AI agents are autonomous software entities capable of making decisions and performing tasks—sometimes collaboratively—without direct human control. Moltbook’s unique platform demonstrates how such agents can be networked into persistent, interactive communities, offering new approaches to social simulation and digital engagement.

The acquisition fits into Meta’s broader strategy to expand its research and development activities in artificial intelligence and to explore new types of social experiences enabled by autonomous agents.

Moltbook’s rapid popularity reflects growing public and industry interest in generative and agent-based AI systems capable of simulating online communities or supporting digital interactions. Such innovations are of increasing significance to major technology companies as they seek to pioneer new forms of social engagement and digital collaboration powered by AI.

No information has been released regarding integration plans or the future roadmap for Moltbook under Meta’s ownership, but the founders’ inclusion in the Superintelligence Labs suggests ongoing research into agentic social networks will remain a focus.
