OpenAI Adds Interactive Math Visuals to ChatGPT

OpenAI has launched a new capability in ChatGPT, enabling users to interact with visual representations of more than 70 mathematical formulas and topics. This feature, called dynamic visual explanations, is designed to support real-time learning by allowing users to manipulate visuals and better understand formulas and their relationships.

The update is available to all logged-in ChatGPT users and targets the platform's substantial base of over 140 million weekly users who often seek assistance with math and science problems. Currently, dynamic visuals cover a range of subjects, including the binomial square, Charles’ law, and compound interest. Users can trigger these modules by asking questions like "What is a lens equation?" or "How can I find the area of a circle?" For example, when exploring the Pythagorean theorem, users can adjust the triangle's side lengths and see the hypotenuse update instantly, reinforcing the concept interactively.

OpenAI indicated plans to further expand the library of interactive topics in the coming months. Notably, Google’s Gemini platform introduced its own interactive diagrams and visuals in late 2023, highlighting ongoing competition in AI-assisted learning technologies.
