WordPress has unveiled my.WordPress.net, a new browser-based publishing platform that integrates an AI assistant capable of building and customizing plugins. This launch, detailed in a recent announcement, marks a significant step towards leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance personal content management.

The new service enables users to create a website directly in their web browser without the need for domain registration or hosting purchases. my.WordPress.net draws on technology from WordPress Playground, an open-source project, to provide a streamlined, private publishing workspace suitable for personal writing, journaling, or drafting.

By default, sites created on my.WordPress.net are private and cannot be accessed from the public internet. WordPress emphasizes that the platform is not optimized for traffic, discovery, or public presentation. Site data is stored locally within the user's browser, making the site accessible only from the original device and browser instance. Users have the option to migrate their site to a dedicated WordPress host if they later wish to make it public.

A key feature of my.WordPress.net is the inclusion of an AI assistant capable of modifying the site, including tweaking or developing new plugins. In WordPress, plugins are software components that add specific functionality to a website, such as contact forms or analytics tools. The assistant can also interact with the site's data, enabling the platform to serve as a personal knowledge base or productivity tool.

The service offers an App Catalog, giving users access to personal tools such as a CRM (Customer Relationship Management system), a bookmarking application, and an AI Workspace. However, the platform imposes a data storage limit of approximately 100MB, indicating that it is best suited for smaller projects and individual applications.

Users are able to reset their site, deleting previous work, or create temporary instances that are erased upon browser refresh. WordPress advises users to regularly back up their work, as initial loading times may be longer and local data can be lost if not properly saved.

The development of my.WordPress.net aligns with WordPress's recent focus on artificial intelligence. Prior initiatives include the formation of a dedicated AI team and the integration of an AI-powered website builder on the WordPress.com platform.

While my.WordPress.net is aimed primarily at personal users, the introduction of an AI-driven plugin assistant highlights accelerating trends in automation and productivity within web publishing and content management systems.
