Tinder, the popular dating app owned by Match Group, unveiled new features on Thursday as part of a wider effort to re-engage users and address declines in paying subscribers. The latest announcements include an Events tab, video speed dating, and several AI-driven personalization and safety tools.

The Events tab will debut in beta for users in Los Angeles later this year, curating local activities such as speakeasies and pottery classes to facilitate in-person connections. Alongside this, the company is piloting a video speed dating experience, enabling participants with verified profile photos to join scheduled three-minute video chats. These initiatives seek to move the platform beyond its traditional swipe interface and deepen user engagement both online and offline.

Tinder is also rolling out new artificial intelligence (AI) functions to enhance matchmaking and improve user safety. The expanded “Chemistry” feature, an AI-driven tool previously tested in Australia and New Zealand, is now available in the United States and Canada. It curates daily matches in order to help reduce swipe fatigue—a common issue among dating app users. AI-powered matchmaking leverages machine learning algorithms to analyze user preferences and activity for more accurate recommendations.

A new "Learning Mode" feature uses AI to personalize match suggestions from a user's very first session. According to Hillary Paine, Tinder's senior vice president of product, this system is designed to quickly recognize and adapt to individual preferences: “We’re hoping that this is something that makes Tinder really feel like it understands you from the very first time you use it,” Paine said.

Tinder’s safety features are also being enhanced with artificial intelligence. The “Does This Bother You?” tool uses large language models—a type of advanced AI that processes and understands human language—to detect harmful or inappropriate messages. Similarly, the "Are You Sure?" prompt is being refined to more effectively identify potentially unsafe interactions before messages are sent. Additional features include new visual modes such as "Music Mode," which integrates Spotify playlists, and "Astrology Mode."

These product initiatives follow a $50 million investment from Match Group, reflecting the parent company's response to declining subscriber numbers. Match Group reported fourth-quarter 2025 revenue of $878 million but has faced several consecutive quarters of falling paying subscribers. Previous attempts to increase user engagement included the Face-to-Face video option during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was ultimately discontinued.

Tinder’s latest features signal a strategic shift toward leveraging AI to create more meaningful and safer user experiences. The company is also focusing on integrating online and offline interactions to distinguish its service in a competitive dating app market.
