Albion Venture Capital Trusts (VCTs) have announced the successful closure of a £90 million top-up offer, reflecting strong investor demand for UK innovation-driven businesses. The offer, which reached its hard cap, will enable Albion Capital to intensify investments in high-growth companies across its primary sectors of deeptech, healthcare, and B2B software.

The newly raised capital is set to be allocated to a diversified portfolio of businesses spanning early-stage disruptors and established scale-ups. Notably, AI-related firms such as Quantexa—a global provider of decision intelligence solutions—and Tem, which develops AI-powered energy infrastructure for cost reduction, feature among Albion's prominent holdings. Decision intelligence, a subset of artificial intelligence, involves using AI to improve decision-making processes in industries such as finance and logistics.

Over the past five years, Albion VCTs have raised more than £405 million and reported notable portfolio momentum. According to the firm, 64% of its portfolio companies have advanced from the growth to scale-up stage in the past three years.

Recent activities include substantial investment rounds for deeptech and fintech innovators like Gravity and TransFICC, further underlining Albion’s commitment to supporting technology-driven enterprises. Another notable holding, Oviva, a digital health company focusing on weight management, recently completed a £200 million Series D financing.

Will Fraser-Allen, Managing Partner at Albion, stated that the oversubscribed fundraise underscores the rising recognition of Venture Capital Trusts as an effective vehicle for backing UK entrepreneurs, while allowing investors to pursue long-term, tax-efficient returns. He added that Albion is well-positioned to deploy the new capital into companies driving technological and scientific advancement, particularly in sectors where the UK has demonstrated international leadership.

Venture Capital Trusts offer investors unique tax advantages under the UK system, designed to stimulate private backing for emerging companies with high growth potential. Albion’s robust fundraising reflects renewed interest in European innovation ecosystems and ongoing confidence in the region’s capacity for scientific and technological progress.
