CiaoDott, a Milan-based startup developing voice AI technology for Italy’s medical sector, has secured €1.5 million in pre-seed funding. The round was led by The Techshop, with participation from Vento, Club degli Investitori, Growth Engine, and Alpha Venture.

Founded in 2025, CiaoDott targets a significant pain point in Italy’s healthcare system: the heavy reliance on telephone communications for patient appointments. Over 70 percent of medical appointments in Italy are still booked by phone, yet nearly one-third of calls remain unanswered, highlighting an opportunity for automation and efficiency improvements.

CiaoDott uses vertical voice AI models—AI systems trained for specific use cases like healthcare—to autonomously manage about 70 percent of incoming calls to medical centers. The platform handles tasks ranging from booking appointments to answering common patient enquiries, allowing healthcare staff to devote more time to direct patient care. Voice AI refers to artificial intelligence solutions capable of processing, understanding, and responding to spoken language.

The Italian health sector represents a sizable market, with 9.4 percent of national GDP dedicated to health spending, according to OECD data. There are approximately 123,000 facilities—including clinics, diagnostics labs, and dental offices—that require advanced technology solutions to optimise their workflows.

CiaoDott has already established collaborations with several healthcare providers, such as Politerapico Monza, Benacus Lab, and Centro Medico Manara. Riccardo Morotti, CEO and Co-Founder of CiaoDott, stated that the funding validates their efforts to innovate in the sector and will enable further development and expansion across Italy. "A generic solution is not enough in this sector; only a vertical approach enables AI to reliably follow correct workflows," Morotti noted.

Gianluca D'Agostino, Founder and Managing Partner at The Techshop SGR, highlighted the product-market fit and the team’s focus as decisive factors for investment. He emphasized that the growing maturity of voice AI models makes it possible to automate complex administrative processes in healthcare, freeing up professionals’ time for patient care and improving operational efficiency.

The funds will be used both to strengthen CiaoDott’s core platform—expanding its capabilities to serve orthopaedic, dental, and dermatological clinics—and to support strategic marketing efforts. The company aims to reach more healthcare providers across Italy in the coming months.
