Barcelona startup Health Lean Analytics (HLA) has secured over €2.1 million in funding to expand its work on automating hospital data capture and optimizing surgical workflows. The financing includes a €1.4 million seed round from family offices such as Inderhabs, Namarel, and Braincats, alongside a loan granted by the Spanish National Innovation Company (ENISA).

HLA specializes in leveraging advanced analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to automate data collection in hospital environments. By minimizing manual intervention, the company aims to reduce errors, free up clinical staff time, and enhance the quality and safety of patient care.

The company's platform passively and automatically captures real-time clinical and operational data, integrating with existing hospital systems. This approach ensures the generation of reliable and traceable information across patients, surgical materials, medications, operating room usage, and equipment management.

Instead of simply displaying raw data, HLA's platform employs AI algorithms to interpret patterns, anticipate potential issues, and recommend tailored actions for clinical and operational staff. Such predictive analytics can support reductions in operational costs, optimize the use of surgical facilities, and further strengthen patient safety, all while improving healthcare professionals' daily workflows.

A significant aspect of this funding milestone is the strategic partnership with Novanta, a firm specializing in advanced manufacturing and medical technology. Novanta will join HLA’s Board of Directors, providing not only technical and sector expertise but also facilitating access to the United States market. According to HLA's co-founder and co-CEO Mauro Batesteza, this partnership will accelerate R&D and help validate their solutions in challenging healthcare settings.

John Lesica, Co-Chief Operating Officer of Novanta, remarked that the integration of Novanta's radio-frequency identification (RFID) and sensing technologies with HLA's AI-driven analytics aims to close the loop between physical workflows and intelligent decision-making in hospitals.

The investment will be primarily directed toward HLA’s international expansion, with plans to deploy commercially in the United States within the next year and further develop its research and product innovation.
