Stockholm-based mobile app development startup Newly, previously known as Natively, has raised more than $2 million to accelerate the expansion of its AI-powered platform for native app creation. The seed round was led by PSV Tech, with additional participation from Karaoke Club, Wave Ventures, Inception Fund, Foundry Ventures, Tiny Supercomputing Investment Company, and several notable angel investors, including Fredrik Björk and Mattias Miksche.

While artificial intelligence (AI) has made significant inroads in web development—enabling rapid creation of websites and digital tools—the process of building native mobile applications for iOS and Android platforms remains complex. Factors such as navigating distinct app store regulations and ensuring high performance have kept barriers high, often confining native app development to specialised technical teams.

Newly seeks to lower these barriers by offering a platform that allows users to design, iterate, and launch fully functional mobile apps without writing code. The product combines agentic AI systems—AI tools capable of acting autonomously toward user-defined goals—with advanced mobile-native technologies. This approach promises to reduce the timeline from initial idea to app store launch from months to hours, according to Timothy Lindblom, the company’s founder and CEO.

Lindblom emphasises that cost and technical complexity have historically excluded many entrepreneurs from native mobile app creation. By automating much of the development process, Newly aims to make native app creation accessible to a far broader range of users, including those without programming experience.

The company plans to use the fresh capital to continue enhancing its platform and expand its offering beyond mobile apps. Upcoming developments will target other native software domains, such as desktop applications, augmented reality (AR) experiences, and wearable device apps—areas that share similar development constraints but stand to benefit from AI-driven automation.

This latest round underscores investor interest in AI-powered development tools, particularly those with applications in streamlining software creation for broader audiences.
