Meta Unveils Prescription-Ready Ray-Ban Smart Glasses With New AI Features
Meta has introduced a new line of Ray-Ban smart glasses tailored for prescription lens users, expanding accessibility to wearable AI technology. The new models provide enhanced comfort and adaptive design, alongside updates such as nutrition tracking and on-device messaging features powered by artificial intelligence.
Meta has announced the launch of two new Ray-Ban smart glasses designed for prescription wearers, marking an expansion of its wearable technology product line. The newly introduced models—Blayzer and Scriber—are engineered to accommodate a wide range of prescriptions and will be available through optical retailers in the United States and select international markets starting April 14, with a starting price of $499.
These smart glasses address the growing demand from users who rely on corrective eyewear throughout the day. According to Meta, the updated designs offer a more personalized fit through flexible hinges, adjustable nose pads, and temple tips, providing improved comfort for a variety of face shapes. The brand has also expanded lens and colour choices across the Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta frames, broadening its appeal to style-conscious consumers.
Beyond hardware enhancements, Meta is advancing the software experience by integrating new artificial intelligence features into its smart glasses. Users can now track their nutrition hands-free: by using voice commands or photographs to log meals, the glasses' AI system generates personalized dietary insights over time. Artificial intelligence in this context refers to advanced software capable of interpreting images and voice, adapting to user behaviour, and delivering recommendations.
The glasses will also support hands-free WhatsApp messaging features for users enrolled in Meta's Early Access Program. With on-device processing and end-to-end encryption aimed at preserving privacy, the AI can summarize group chats or deliver message highlights using voice commands. This reflects a broader industry trend in adopting privacy-preserving machine learning applications.
A new Neural Handwriting feature will soon allow users to reply to messages by writing with their finger, silently and discreetly, across popular Meta platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp. Meta has indicated this capability will be available to all users in the coming weeks.
Meta’s continued investment in AI-powered wearables underscores its efforts to integrate digital productivity tools directly into everyday objects. The combination of prescription support and artificial intelligence-enabled functionalities situates Meta’s smart glasses in the evolving market for connected eyewear.
