Neurosoft Bioelectronics, a neurotechnology company headquartered in Switzerland, has secured $7.5 million in a seed funding round to further develop scalable, minimally invasive brain-computer interfaces (BCIs). The oversubscribed round was led by Skybound Venture Capital, joined by Protocol Labs, IAG Capital Partners, Connecticut Innovations, and others. This funding brings Neurosoft’s total financing to more than $20 million.

Neurosoft Bioelectronics specialises in developing a neural interface platform that aims to provide comprehensive cortical access without penetrating brain tissue. The company’s proprietary soft and stretchable electrodes are designed to be more compliant than traditional neural interfaces, enabling broader coverage of the cortex through less invasive surgical procedures.

Neural interfaces, also known as brain-computer interfaces, facilitate direct communication between the brain and external devices. Such technology is being explored for clinical applications, including the treatment of neurological disorders and development of assistive communication tools.

According to the company, its long-term goal is to create a large-scale platform for neural data collection that could support the training and operation of foundation models—that is, broad, versatile artificial intelligence systems—of the human cortex. These models depend on extensive, high-quality neural data, and Neurosoft believes its minimally invasive technology could advance both invasive and non-invasive BCI performance.

Nicolas Vachicouras, PhD, CEO of Neurosoft Bioelectronics, stated that the company's unique electrode technology and regulatory approach enables the safe collection of neural data at an unprecedented scale and quality. He emphasised that such data could drive improved clinical outcomes and advance the development of next-generation brain interfaces.

To date, Neurosoft’s technology has been evaluated in ten patients across two ongoing clinical trials at UTHealth Houston and UMC Utrecht. These studies include a 64-channel brain interface for surgical guidance in epilepsy. The company’s intellectual property portfolio consists of more than 25 patents and over 25 peer-reviewed publications.

The new funding will be used to achieve key clinical and commercial goals, including the demonstration of minimally invasive deployment in human patients and progress toward commercialisation in the United States. Neurosoft aims to establish its technology as a standard platform for high-quality neural data acquisition, with potential benefits for both clinical care and artificial intelligence research.
