Salesforce, the US-based software giant, has announced the acquisition of Contentful, a German content management company headquartered in Berlin. The deal, confirmed by both companies, is intended to strengthen Salesforce's capabilities in deploying AI-driven content across multiple digital channels.

Founded in 2013, Contentful is known for its API-first, headless platform that enables developers and content creators to curate, manage, and distribute digital content across websites, blogs, and social media. The company currently works with more than 4,800 brands seeking to deliver personalized digital experiences at scale.

According to Salesforce, this acquisition will enhance its Agentforce AI agent platform, adding a native content layer that allows enterprises to deliver autonomous, personalized digital experiences across various channels. In a statement, Jujhar Singh, president of C360 Applications & Industries at Salesforce, said, “Every meaningful customer interaction depends on three things working together: the right data, the right AI-driven content, and a modern, effortless experience. With Contentful, we complete that picture by adding a native, headless, composable content layer that lets Agentforce dynamically assemble and deliver personalized experiences across every channel, at the speed and scale the AI era demands.”

Contentful’s API-first architecture has been highlighted as a strong fit for the Salesforce technology stack, promising to accelerate the delivery and personalization of digital content through AI agents. Karthik Rau, CEO of Contentful, noted that the integration with Salesforce aligns with his company’s mission to enable businesses to dynamically assemble and deliver rich digital experiences. “Together, we will redefine how brands interact with customers by giving Agentforce the content layer it needs to make every interaction truly engaging,” Rau said.

While Salesforce has not disclosed the financial terms of the transaction, the acquisition follows a 2021 funding round in which Contentful raised $175 million at a valuation exceeding $3 billion. That round was led by Tiger Global, with participation from Base10 Advancement Initiative, Tidemark, and earlier European investor Balderton which first backed Contentful in 2013.

The deal underscores Salesforce’s ongoing strategy to integrate advanced content management capabilities into its broader suite of AI-powered enterprise tools, reflecting growing demand for automated, personalized customer engagement in digital business.
