Poindexter Labs Secures £2M to Enhance Expert Training Data for AI
Poindexter Labs, a UK-based AI data company, has raised £2 million in seed funding to advance its platform for producing high-quality training data for complex AI models. The funding will support the development of its proprietary platform and expansion into enterprise and public sector markets.
Poindexter Labs, a UK-based company specializing in high-quality training data for artificial intelligence (AI) models, has announced the completion of a £2 million oversubscribed seed funding round. The investment was led by Episode 1, with participation from Evertrue Capital, Octopus Ventures' First Cheque Fund, and other private investors, including contributors to Poindexter’s data platform such as mathematicians and scientists.
As the capacities of advanced AI systems increase—particularly in areas requiring complex reasoning and domain-specific knowledge—the demand for expert-generated training data is growing. Traditionally, AI training data has been prepared through large-scale labeling of images or basic text, sufficient for early machine learning models. However, developing models capable of professional decision-making in fields like mathematics, science, law, medicine, and finance requires more sophisticated data infrastructure.
Poindexter Labs has developed a proprietary platform, currently in beta, that supports both its in-house data production and external organizations seeking to develop advanced AI solutions. The platform is designed to enable collaborative workflows among subject-matter experts, allowing them to create and validate specialized training data. This approach aims to bridge the gap between high-volume annotation workflows and the needs of next-generation AI systems, where detailed professional judgment and peer-reviewed reasoning are essential.
Jocelyn D’Arcy, Founder and CEO of Poindexter Labs, noted that conventional AI data workflows often prioritize rapid scaling over the collaborative development of knowledge. This has led to a significant portion of data being discarded during adversarial review processes, not due to inaccuracy but because current methods reward discarding rather than improving data. Poindexter’s methodology emphasizes transparent collaboration, modeled on academic practices, to enhance the quality and reliability of training datasets.
The recent funding round will be used to expand the Poindexter Labs team, strengthen partnerships with advanced AI research labs, and introduce the platform to a wider array of enterprises and public-sector organizations. This is seen as a critical step in building the data infrastructure required for AI models to handle increasingly complex real-world problems.
