Zurich’s Sparkli, an AI-powered learning platform for children, has secured a $5 million pre-seed round to bring its innovative multimodal educational engine to families and schools worldwide. Founded by alumni of Google’s Area 120, Search, and YouTube teams, the company is aiming to reimagine how young people engage with knowledge in the digital age.

In today’s landscape, children are exposed to an abundance of information, but most digital learning tools fail to deliver nuanced or age-appropriate pathways for mastering complex concepts. Sparkli seeks to close this gap by leveraging real-time, multimodal artificial intelligence—the type of AI capable of engaging with learners across text, images, voice, and more.

Sparkli’s approach transforms traditional education methods. Instead of relying on static curricula, the platform encourages real-time exploration, where students turn their own questions into interactive educational “journeys.” These journeys are multidisciplinary, merging technology, design thinking, sustainability, financial literacy, and global awareness into dynamic, hands-on experiences.

“Our goal is to build agency in the next generation. Sparkli is designed to turn screen time into an environment where curiosity and independent thinking can develop,” said founder and CEO Lax Poojary, highlighting the company’s ambition to make screen time more constructive and empowering for children.

A core component of Sparkli is its ability to generate a continuously evolving profile for every learner. As children interact with the platform, it adapts to their interests and knowledge, enabling ever-more personalized and engaging experiences. This personalization is powered by generative AI—a technology that can create new content, scenarios, and challenges tailored specifically for each child.

The founding team’s expertise blends technology and pedagogy, with backgrounds at Google and Switzerland’s renowned ETH. Their combined experience allows Sparkli to fuse educational best practices with state-of-the-art motion design, playful game mechanics, and robust safety policies—delivering an environment suitable and secure for young users.

The recent funding injection will fuel Sparkli’s plans to scale up its generative learning engine and gear up for a private beta launch. The platform is already undergoing real-world validation through a strategic pilot with a major international private school network, granting the startup access to more than 100 schools and over 100,000 students.

As the European edtech sector continues to innovate, Sparkli’s ambitions reflect broader regional priorities: supporting digital literacy, fostering independent thinking, and ensuring child-safe, ethical AI development. The company’s progress will be closely watched as it prepares to enter a highly competitive market for educational technology, both in Europe and beyond.
