Constructor Capital Raises $110 Million for Science-Led Startups
Constructor Capital, the Swiss venture arm of Constructor Group, has closed its first fund at $110 million to invest in early-stage deep technology, software, and education technology startups. The fund targets companies with strong scientific foundations, leveraging a global network of universities and researchers. Investments span across Europe, the US, the UAE, and Singapore, with a portfolio already comprising leaders in advanced computing and AI infrastructure.
Constructor Capital, the Swiss-based venture division of the Constructor Group, has announced the close of its inaugural $110 million fund to support startups led by science-driven founders. The fund aims to invest primarily in seed and Series A rounds across deep technology (deeptech), software, and educational technology (edtech) sectors.
Distinguishing itself from traditional venture capital, Constructor Capital employs a science-first methodology for selecting and supporting companies. Drawing on partnerships with over 50 universities and a wide network of academic researchers, the firm is equipped to assess complex technological research and provide tailored support to companies developing advanced scientific solutions. This approach aims to bridge the gap between academic innovation and commercial viability, an area often overlooked by mainstream investors.
Operating within the broader Constructor Group ecosystem, Constructor Capital benefits from direct integration with Constructor University, research laboratories, an equity-free accelerator, and platforms designed for research application and technological transfer. This ecosystem support enables portfolio companies to make smoother transitions from laboratory environments to market-ready products and services.
Matthias Winter, Managing Partner at Constructor Capital, emphasized the significance of technologies developed within research institutions, noting that such innovations often struggle to secure adequate funding and commercial guidance. The new fund seeks to address this by combining academic insight with operational expertise.
Constructor Capital's fund will invest globally, including in Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia. Typical investment sizes range from $1 million to $10 million, with select investments reaching up to $15 million and reserves for follow-on funding. The primary emphasis remains on science-led organizations operating at the cutting edge of their fields.
The initial portfolio already features several high-profile companies. These include QuEra Computing, which specializes in building neutral-atom quantum computers—a promising approach to quantum information processing; Lumai, focusing on optical computing architectures to improve the efficiency of artificial intelligence (AI) inference; GCore, offering advanced AI infrastructure solutions; Osome, which provides software-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) platforms; and VitreaLab, which works in augmented reality technology.
By targeting companies with strong roots in scientific innovation, Constructor Capital aims to facilitate the commercialization of research and enable scientific advances to have broader market impact. The firm's active presence in Europe, along with its global reach, positions it to support a new generation of startups advancing the frontiers of technology and AI infrastructure.
